As you know, the job market is more like the Hunger Games these days. This short film shows what lengths job applicants will go to in order to land a sweet ass job. We’re talking six figures, paid vacation, full benefits; the mother-load. What would you do to beat out your fellow applicants for a job like that? Well, you’ll see what Dale and Melissa are willing to do. Yes, there is singing, dancing, rapping and more.
Background
We performed this short play for Microtheater Miami to an overwhelmingly positive response. Audience numbers increased 400% by the fifth week of the run.
People were having so much fun that we wanted to bring the material to a wider audience. We want the rest of the world to be able to see Dale and Melissa’s interview, so they can laugh and maybe feel a little better about themselves. After watching this train-wreck, you’re sure to feel like a bona fide winner.

We want this to look and sound amazing. Thanks to AMAZING friends, family, and film supporters, we’ve already raised a good amount toward our budget with an indiegogo campaign, but there are still costs we need to cover and could really use your help. Our budget is going toward location, crew, camera, lighting and sound equipment, insurance, editing and submission fees. That’s a lot of stuff, not to mention that we will actually need to feed people while we shoot. Making films is expensive and time-consuming, but so worth it.

The Team
The Applicants
Ivan Lopez
Ivan is a producer, actor, writer, director, and educator, as well as the co-Creative Director of White Rose Miami. He has been acting for 12 years, appearing in over 40 plays in New York, Denver, and Miami. He is a professor of acting and dramatic literature at Florida International University, with an MFA in Acting from the National Theatre Conservatory and a BFA in Theatre from FIU. His personal mission is explore the depths of his creativity and to inspire others to do the same.
Katrina Morris
Katrina began her acting career at the age of 10 in children’s theater in the San Francisco Bay Area and continued through college at San Francisco State University. Upon relocating to Miami, she appeared in the film “Two Much” with Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith. She took a break from acting to earn her computer science degree, but returned shortly after. She has since appeared in commercials (Winn Dixie, Minute Maid), films, and theater and starred in the indie sitcom “Miami Life.” She has also been a cast member with the improv troupes Just The Funny and Jiggles and Giggles. The Director
Jon Jones
Jon is a Miami-based director focusing on telling imaginative stories in the genres of comedy, drama, and narrative music video. Jon graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Central Florida but soon after the film gods struck his heart with a cinema-tainted arrow. He joined a production team that created book trailers for middle-school students to inspire their interests in literature. Jon wrapped Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 and other novels into two minute video trailers utilizing high production value techniques, such as burning books dangling from fishing poles. Those projects led Jon to be the producer for several short films and his music video gained recognition as an official selection to the Los Angeles International and South By Southwest film festivals.
Afterward, Jon pursued MFA in Film Production at the University of Miami where his thesis film won multiple awards including Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Overall Graduate film at the 2011 Canes Film Festival. His shorts and music videos have played numerous festivals and film projects have taken him to locations like India, Bermuda and the Navajo Nation.
He is currently in development on his first feature film.
The Writers
Idoia de Eguia Luna and Alexa Dooseman
Idoia
Idoia is an actress and writer from Barcelona with a degree in Drama from Col·legi de teatre de Barcelona. She appeared in theater productions at Tantarantana Theatre and Regina Theatre.
She later started working for Catalunya Radio as an impersonator, editor and reporter for El Matí de Catalunya Ràdio, the national morning show in Catalunya. She’s continued her work on the station for 4 years, as well as on several Catalunya radio shows as a scriptwriter and a host. She also appeared as a host on the TV show Buenas noches y Buena Suerte produced by Gestmusic Endemol , broadcasted by Antena 3TV, the Spanish national TV Channel.
Simultaneously, Idoia founded Les Antonietes Theatre S.L. with two fellow actresses, working as a manager, producer and actress. Their inaugural production, L’aigua, received positive reviews and launched this young theater company with a promising future.
She now lives in San Francisco where she continues in dance and theatre, while serving as the correspondent on the US East Coast for Catalunya Radio and RAC1.
Alexa
Alexa is a freelance writer, living in San Francisco. Her work has appeared on McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, The Rumpus, Glossolalia and more. She has written reviews, daily deals, advertising copy, humor pieces, one-acts and academic essays. She holds an MA in English Language and Literature from the University of Virginia and a BA in English from Boston University. She has a black and white cat.
The DP (Director of Photography for the non-film geeks)
Jonathan Franklin
Jonathan is a Kenyan-born American who grew up in Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa and is often referred to as the “White African American.” While living in Kenya he was first exposed to photography at age 8 when his mother handed him a 35mm Canon AE1 SLR and sent him off to the game park with his father to “shoot some animals.” At age 18 he moved to Miami, to pursue a BSC at the University of Miami with specific focus on Cinematography, Photography and Digital Imaging. Since graduating he has shot National TV spots for Prosecco Zonin Wines & Dell Computers as well as assisting in the camera department on “Charlie’s Angels”; numerous music videos for top billing artists; national TV spots, documentaries for Rakontur such as “The U” and “Square Grouper” as well as feature length films and high end fashion shoots. His passion for cinematography borders obsession and he is always on set or on the way to set. On a side note, he speaks British English with an American accent and often mixes his Swahili into his broken Spanish.
The Editor
Jenny Lorenzo
Jenny Lorenzo is a small gal with REALLY BIG……aspirations. As host, producer and editor of Aggressive Comix’s Geekgasm she brings you into her little geek world filled with 90s nostalgia and nonsensical shenanigans. She likes to make a fool of herself for a living so laugh with her if you will! Or…at her. (shrug). Check her out on facebook.
The Executive Producer
Aaron Morris
Aaron Myles Morris is the director or the Cultural Development Group, the film’s fiscal sponsor. Founded with his wife, Anna Morris and key volunteers from the Miami (International) Film Festival, CDG’s mission is to assist the Arts Community of South Florida and Western North Carolina through services, consultation, promotion, education, facilities, and funding.
Aaron has been involved in the Arts his entire life. Both through his involvement with the family business, Rex Artist Supplies, and in the various areas of the performing, media and literary arts. His ceaseless dedication and energy in the field of arts philanthropy helped found the now well-established South Florida events, the Miami (International) Film Festival and Miami Book Fair International. In addition to being a member of the founding Board of Directors he served as Executive Vice President and Logistical Coordinator for both organizations. Aaron was a board member of the Players Theatre in the 70s through its rebirth as the Players State Theatre at the Coconut Grove Playhouse. He was Chairman of the Board and grant writer of Freddick Bratcher and Company, Contemporary Dance Theatre for over a decade.
Aaron served as Executive Producer of Billy Yeager’s film, Jimmy’s Story. He also teamed up with Bunny Yeager for the production of a calendar of her most memorable photographs as a CDG project. He is an avid photographer, and was selected to exhibit at New York University. Aaron has also published a book of poetry, Random Feelings and is working on editing his poetry and stories for a series of books.
